Obituary for Oreland George Dean

Oreland George Dean
Oreland George Dean

With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Oreland George Dean on May 27, 2017 in Prince Albert, SK. Loving husband to Doreen (Lang), the best dad in the world to Novalea (Patrick) Fahl and Kimberly (Patrick) White. Proud Pah-Pah to Deanna (Kelly) & Benjamin Wolter and Shaelyn White; Grandpa to Rubin (Nadine), Harmoney & Abel White and Cora-Lee White, and best friend to his little buddy “Tag”-a-long.
Also left to mourn his passing are: his sister: Darlene (Henry) Mathers and their children: Randy (Michele) Mathers, Carrie Mathers (Jim Barnes) and Sandra (Darren) Larson and their families; sisters and brothers-in-law: Alec Lang, Roy (Laia) Lang, Sandra Lang, Edna Loseth and Edward (Hilda) Lang; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Oreland was predeceased by his parents: George and Kathleen (Anderson) Dean; his parents-in-law: Wildrew and Margaret (Brown) Lang; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Walter and Faith Nagel; Wildrew and Evie Lang; Robert Lang; Earl Loseth; Lloyd Lang; Sylvia Lang; Eileen Lang & Kathleen Lang. Oreland was born on November 28, 1939 and raised in Prince Albert. He attended Queen Mary Elementary and PACI and then graduated from St. Mary High School. He took great pride in having his daughters and granddaughters attend his alma maters of St. Mary’s and P.A.C.I. He respected and appreciated the water and never passed up an opportunity to go fishing or just enjoy a boat ride. The trip was always better if he came back with some fish in the boat and he was not averse to buying some to make that happen. Oreland worked in Corrections for many years and took a great deal of pride in his work and the positions that he held. He enjoyed working with people of all areas and walks; and if he had any biases he kept them to himself. He firmly believed that his personal credo was to help anyone who was working to better themselves. He always said that he liked what he did and wouldn’t have changed his career if he was given a choice. Having someone to share a laugh with was always the highlight of any day since Oreland’s favorite past time was socializing with family and friends. He really liked playing games – any game really, but he especially looked forward to campfire sing-a-longs and charades with the LA Hooksters, cards at the farm and New Year’s Eve celebrations with anyone who wanted to join him. He also had fond memories of dancing, golfing, curling, shuffleboard, darts, the Fish & Wildlife Federation, the Legion, the Army & Navy and all the great friends he found along the way. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm, MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St. E, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas as Officiant. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Oreland to the Lung Association, Cancer Society or the Victoria Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
