Michael 'Mike' William Wingerchuk, late of Prince Albert, SK, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2017 at the age of 76 years. Mike was born May 6, 1941 in Prince Albert and he initially lived on the family farm on the Garden River northeast of the city. He later attended Riverside high school and studied civil engineering technology at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute. Mike’s first job was on the hydroelectric powerhouse at Squaw Rapids. He worked at DNR and other departments in the Government of Saskatchewan, retiring after 34 years of service. Mike was proud of his contributions to civil engineering innovations, including the use of helicopters to locate new roads and installation of one of the first computerized irrigation systems in the country. Mike married Lena (Lil) Tkachuk in 1965 in Prince Albert. Mike and Lil enjoyed family parties, dancing and having fun together. While raising their children, Mike continued to run the family farm, and designed and built log cabins at Weyakwin Lake. Mike was an extraordinarily dedicated family man who cared for Lil and other chronically ill family members throughout much of his life. His retirement was spent travelling, dancing and enjoying life, often with his friend, Pat Scopick of Saskatoon. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Olga, and his wife Lil. He is survived by his three children, Dean (Caron) Wingerchuk, Taisha (David) Betz, and Patrick Wingerchuk and four grandchildren, Ella and Ian Wingerchuk, and Charles and Lily Betz. His grandchildren cherish the spent time with Mike at the farm, lake and in Prince Albert and will always remember Gido/Grandpa for his generosity and love. The family would like to thank the staff of the Good Shepherd care home in Prince Albert for his exemplary care. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 2 pm, at Mackenzie Funeral Home, Prince Albert, followed with a coffee reception at Royal Canadian Legion. All who knew Mike are welcome to attend. The family request donations in lieu of flowers to Parkinson Society Canada or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
