Obituary for Lloyd Oscar Olsen

Lloyd Oscar Olsen
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Olsen, late of Prince Albert, SK, on October 11, 2017 at the age of 97 years, after a brief illness. Lloyd was born September 24, 1920, in Saskatoon, SK. When the depression took hold, the family moved to the Mayview District. When World War II broke out Lloyd volunteered for the RCAF, where he trained as a Wireless Air Gunner and served overseas. In 1948 he and Mary Shkwarek were united in marriage. Lloyd and Mary made their home in Prince Albert. Lloyd worked for Canada Customs & Revenue as Collector of Customs until his retirement in 1985. Lloyd was a good athlete and in his younger years a talented pitcher. He also golfed and did cross country skiing. He loved nature and the outdoors, especially fishing trips with his brothers, berry picking and gardening. At home he always made sure there was food and water out for the birds. Lloyd was a proud veteran and was active in the Legion for many years. He was also involved with Air Cadets and spoke at local schools to share his wartime experiences and advocate for peace. Lloyd was musical, playing violin and guitar and he especially loved playing and listening to old time dance music. He had a great sense of humour and always had a joke or story to suit the occasion. Lloyd is loved and remembered by his daughter: Valerie; his son-in-law: Stephen; his grandchildren: Veronica and Benjamin; his sister: Laura Kirkness; his brothers: Louie Olsen, Buck Olsen, Eddy (Marg) Olsen; sisters-in-law: Rose Sparks, Julie Roy, and Agnes Thompson; as well as numerous other relatives. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife: Mary; his parents: Lillian and Olai Olsen, his brother and sister-in-law: Leonard and Jean Olsen; his sisters-in-law: Laura and Audrey Olsen; his brother-in-law: Louis Kirkness; and his in-laws: Andrew Shkwarek, Paul and Jesse Shkwarek, Joe and Irene Shkwarek, Pat Shkwarek, Ev Roy, Ruth and Ron MacDonald, Jenny and Jim Broderick, and Tom Shkwarek. A funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017 – 11:00 am at MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St E, Prince Albert, SK. Veterans Honours will be Conferred.
