Obituary for William Gill

William Gill
September 1, 1920 – January 8, 2017
William “Bill” Gill, late of Prince Albert, father to Ted Gill, and Darlene (Mervin) Radke; grandfather to Kevin (Julie) Radke, Tonnille (Rodrigo) Segovia, Morgan Van Breda, Adam (Cecilia) Van Breda, Teddi Lynn Gill Johnson; great-grandchildren: Annika and Mattias Radke, Leo and Amaia Segovia, Layla and Sura Van Breda, Hunter and Tawnos Johnson; sister: Stella Brassard; sisters-in-law: Jane Gill, and Ellen June Gill; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary; daughter: Joan Van Breda; parents: Joseph and Magdelena; wife's parents: Nicholas and Anastasia Mindiuk; his brothers: Kasmir (Jane), John (Mary), Tom, and Mike; sisters: Mary (Frank) Sawula, Vickie (Sidney) White, and Jennie(Floyd) Kernohan; and brothers-in-law: Ralph Brassard, and Walter (Mel) Mindiuk.
William Joseph Gill was born in Poland, September 1, 1920. In 1930, along with his family, they left Poland to seek their fortunes in Canada. Bill was enlisted in the Armed Forces and served WW2 in France, Belgium, and Holland. In 1945 he was wounded and reported missing, but later recovered in Holland. In 1946, Bill met and married Mary Mindiuk and were blessed with three children. The Gill family homesteaded, resided, and farmed in the Paddockwood area. Bill worked hard, and played hard. He truly enjoyed bowling, as well as golfing and curling. We wish to extend sincere thanks to Derek and family at the Bowling Alley for all the good care to its seniors, so that they can enjoy the friendships made and joy of bowling.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at MacKenzie Chapel, Wednesday, January 11th at 1:30PM with Rev. Ken Lyons officiating. Interment at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, 345 3 Ave S #1, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1M6. Veterans honours will be conferred.
